The Wall Mirror
67If you want to know how to choose the right wall mirror for your home you only have to look at what room it will be hung in. It'll be easy enough to match style with eth décor of the room so we won't discuss that. Decide what room it your wall mirror will go in and then decide on the placement within the room. Mounting the mirror will be easy. Most come with mounting equipment.
Once you get these basics down you can then get more detailed and choose from a flat pane or a beveled edge on your mirror. Beveled glass tends to hold more appeal than flat but the choice is yours. You can also choose between a framed or frameless wall mirror. Sometimes it’s best to go frameless if you select beveled glass but again, this is a personal choice.
Consider Space For A Wall Mirror
A wall mirror is a basic necessity in your home. It does more for you than your bathroom mirror can or a dresser mirror. It lets you see your full image so that you can easily dress for work or any other function. They also provide more lighting though reflections so that you can see exactly how something looks on you. But when placing wall mirrors you want to keep in mind special relations. You don't want a large wall mirror in a small room. While it can provide the illusion of space, it is just that: an illusion. You want something that complements the area. The same goes for a large room. A mirror that is too small will look awkward in a large room. Again, complement the room.
Hanging A Wall Mirror
Once you know what size you are going to use it's time to hang your mirror. It will likely be too large for you to handle so it's wise to have someone available to help you install it. If you don't have someone who can help you out, try finding something sturdy to set the mirror on while you measure the spot it will hang from.
The first thing you want to do is find a stud in the wall where you want to hang the mirror. You can do this by tapping or by using a stud finder. Line up the mirror so that the middle is as close to the stud as possible. Once you have the right position, mark either side of the mirror on the wall with a pencil.
Carefully slide the full length wall mirror out of the way once you have your marks. Measure the width of your two marks, find the center point between those points and mark it with your pencil.
It's important that you hang it from a stud in the wall so if your center mark is off some, just measure the distance and add or subtract the difference from each side so that the center mark now falls on the stud.
Attach a quality D ring picture hangar to the wall using a durable wood screw and electric screw drive at the stud and then carefully hang your mirror. You can either eye it or use a level to make sure it's straight.
Other large wall mirrors don't hang from the wall but simply lean. These decorative wall mirrors are usually full sized and extremely heavy. That's why they are able to lean against the wall without any damage to them.
It doesn't matter what room you are placing wall mirrors. They can add to any room in your home. It all depends if you want function or form. Many people use mirrors as decorations only and this works great. Depending on your budget you can expect to pay around $150 for something easily hung on the wall yourself or as much as $850 for the type of wall mirror that leans against the wall.
